Saffron

Our saffron is locally grown on a small 200m2 parcel of land. Every flower is picked by hand each morning, every stigma is carefully removed that afternoon and dried that evening, everyday throughout the month of November.

Saffron is used in the 500 year old traditional recipe of "Starogrojski Paperenjok" - local gingerbread. It is also used in the preparation of traditional dishes, soups, sauces, rice and cakes.

Originating in the ancient Oriental Mediterranean world 5000 years ago, saffron is the oldest and most sought after spice on the planet due to it's qualities of complex flavour and aroma, nutritional and medicinal benefits and powerful pigment.
